A prized, irreplaceable possession.

Although it's worth a lot of money, you don't care about it's financial value; it's all about what it means to you emotionally.

Personally.

Your grandfather gave it to you.

You are heart broken.

It's fallen into a shoe in the cupboard in your bedroom... but you don't know that.

You sit on your bed and rack your brains.

It's right in front of you, but you're totally unaware.

So near and yet so far.

Like so many things in your life.

Three feet may as well be three miles.

Or three thousand.

Just like some of your relationships.

And dreams.

And while your eyes are open, you're not really seeing anything.

You do that.

You're pretty sure it's somewhere in the lounge room, or maybe the family room, the bathroom perhaps, possibly somewhere in the kitchen... it could even be in the car.

You're not sure, but you look high and low.

You're on a mission.

You search relentlessly.

You even get others involved.

"If I get other people to help me, I'll find what I'm looking for quicker", you tell yourself.

It doesn't happen.

You look and look.

To no avail.

By now, you're actually further away.

You've extended your search to the garage.

You're running on emotion.

You get frustrated.

Periodically angry.

You start to blame others.. "perhaps someone has moved it", you tell yourself.

Or worse still, stolen it from you.

"People do that", you tell yourself.

You start to resent your imaginary foes.

You try and make it their fault.

You start to waste precious energy on the stuff you can't change.

You begin to sabotage yourself.

You become ugly to be around.

You become less and less productive and you start to lose perspective.

The people that you've recruited to help you find your treasure haven't produced, so you get rid of them.

You bring in some new people.

You're sure that these people will help you find what you're looking for.

After all, they come highly recommended.

Even though you dropped your prized possession in the shoe, you find a way to make it about someone else.

You're good at that.

You have history of it.

You've never put so much time and effort into trying to achieve something... for zero result.

And all the while, it's only ten feet away.

So near and yet so far.

It's at your finger tips.

If only you would look in the right place.

If only you would change how you think.

After all, it doesn't matter how hard you look or how many people you involve in the process, if you're looking in the wrong place.
