The Hidden Motivator that Turbo-Charges Success
What’s in it for me besides the money?
Of course, this question does not necessarily apply to all careers all the time. However, let’s assume that whatever you do, money is an important factor, you want lots of it, and you will happily cash the check.
Not surprisingly, I’ve discovered that money does motivate. The promise of affluence and financial gain is powerful indeed.
However, we may find the decisive spark of accomplishment in something that has nothing to do with a bank account. And this may be the spark that makes the difference between the 211th degree and the 212th.
It’s that last little bit that transforms a smoldering desire for success into a “burning desire for success.”
So here are a few ideas that might be the spark that propels you that little extra way to success.
Perhaps you need to prove you’re good, right, or the best. Sometimes a slight, put-down, or smirk of derision is enough to make you say “I’ll show you!” And who among us that strives for success hasn’t had someone who thought we were nuts,
start an online retail business or unrealistic? Sometimes such an incident can sear into our memory and inspire action when we otherwise “don’t feel like it.”
Perhaps you need to fulfill the dreams and expectations of a parent or primary caregiver. This is not as far-fetched as it may seem, even if the parent or primary caregiver is
starting an online business for dummies deceased. The desire to carry on a family tradition or finish some long-desired project started by a loved one can be very strong.
Perhaps you are driven by something you want to leave in your past like going to a job you don’t like or living from paycheck to paycheck. Although this may seem counterintuitive, sometimes the past you leave behind is more motivating than the future you head towards.
Perhaps you secretly crave the recognition and celebrity status that success offers. Although you may not end up a household name except
steps to starting an online business your own industry, so what? You will be noticed for your accomplishments. And this is not as egotistical as it may sound. The terms “celebrity” and “gracious” are not always mutually exclusive.
Perhaps I’ve hit on the spark that catches your attention. Even if I haven’t, here’s a simple way to find that spark quickly and easily.
As you read the previous lines, did something make you sit up, take notice, and say “Yeah?” Did something generate an emotional effect that charged you up even for a moment?
If so, that’s the spark you might need to go from where you are to beyond anything you’ve ever done before. If not, find something that generates a flash of emotion and a spontaneous “Yeah! That’s it!”
However you do it, discover what’s in it for you besides the money. It will do wonders for your self-esteem and it will make you more money.
